Advice for Walkers

The information below on Equipment, Walkers and Group responsibilities appears on the printed programme and is repeated here as a reminder to all our walkers.

New members (and those considering becoming a member) are strongly advised to read the more detailed Advice Sheet for Walkers.

Equipment

Walkers and Group Responsibilities

1.            Members walk at their own risk and should consider the need for personal insurance.

2.            The 1:25000 Ordnance Survey Mourne Country Outdoor Pursuits Map is used. There are six figures given for each starting point. The first two figures give the number of the vertical line, the fourth and fifth figures give the number of the horizontal line. The remaining figures give fractions in tenths towards the next line.

3.            Leaders must arrange another member as a substitute for any weeks they are unable to be present.

4.            Walks begin punctually.

5.            Members should avoid crossing fences or walls where possible. Use stiles and close gates except when meant to be left open.

6.            Members are encouraged to choose the grade of walk best suited to their fitness level.

7.            New Members should take responsibility for introducing themselves to the leader.

8.            Leave no litter. Take all your litter home.

9.            Members are encouraged to maximise parking space by parking close to cars which are already parked.

10.        It is a policy of the group that dogs are not allowed on any walk.

11.        Membership fee is £18 per year (or part of year) due for renewal October 1st.

12.        Membership is open to those aged 18 or over.
